CARERS CO-ORDINATOR

The AGE north down & ards (AGEnda) vision is to ensure that older people in the Ards and North Down area are comfortable with growing older.  AGEnda’s purpose is to support older people to live healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives.

SUMMARY OF POST

The role of Carers Co-Ordinator will specifically focus on providing group, 1-1 and befriending support for carers across North Down and Ards.

We are seeking a caring, competent, and passionate individual to oversee AGEnda’s Support for Carers & the Cared for Person project.

This project will entail monthly support events in 4 key areas, Bangor, Comber, Holywood & Peninsula. These events will provide one room for carers to meet our staff member and receive support from them and also from peers, and another room for the cared for people which will provide them with support and activities while the carers are granted some respite and support. The Carers Co-ordinator will also be available for 1-1 support and signposting outside of these events.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Carers Co-ordinator must work to achieve the below outcomes and the successful candidate will be able to evidence and display personal and professional attributes and experience to equip them to achieve the below impact aims:

  1. Enhanced provision of and access to practical support and help for carers - The Carers Co-ordinator will provide signposting to all carers who engage with the services.   We will also provide a practical period of respite whenever the carer visits our event as we provide support for the cared for person.
  2. Improved access to and availability of advice services for carers - This project will bring support directly into the communities where carers are based by targeting x 4 key areas in Ards & North Down, making this project highly accessible. We will also remove the barrier of having concerns or practical difficulties in leaving the cared for person as they will attend in a different room and will be supported by AGEnda staff and volunteers.
  3. Enhanced skills of carers to advocate for the needs of both themselves and the person they care for - The events will provide practical support and workshops for carers which will enhance their skills.
  4. Support improved mental health and wellbeing of carers – The events will provide support for carers wellbeing and mental health; in particular tackling isolation and offering space for them to voice their concerns and fears,
  5. Enhanced ability for carers to lead their own lives and enjoy a work/life balance - The project will provide space for Carers to take time for themselves and promote work-life balance.
